Workforce & Talent Development

Building the skilled workforce Caribbean pharmaceutical production depends on.

How We’re Accomplishing This

BPI is building a future-ready pharmaceutical workforce that positions Barbados as a regional leader in life sciences talent development.Through its partnership with EMPOWER Swiss SARL, BPI is developing a Digital Manufacturing Academy that combines competency-based training, digital learning, virtual laboratories, and workforce mapping to prepare talent across the pharmaceutical value chain. The platform will deliver scalable, industry-aligned training across the Caribbean while strengthening Barbados' capabilities in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality systems, regulatory sciences, and advanced production technologies.

In parallel, BPI is developing a Barbados–Nigeria pharmaceutical skills pathway to provide hands-on training in GMP, sterile manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory practice alongside the AMA manufacturing initiative. Together with HIOFU's verified workforce repository, these initiatives are creating a sustainable pipeline of scientists, technicians, engineers, regulators, and manufacturing professionals while giving investors greater visibility into Barbados' skilled talent base.

Collectively, they are establishing the human capital foundation for a competitive pharmaceutical ecosystem, with the BPI–AMA manufacturing initiative alone expected to create more than 200 direct jobs over time, alongside a broader supporting workforce as the sector expands.
