Building the conditions for pharmaceutical innovation to scale in Barbados.
BPI is building an integrated innovation ecosystem that brings together research, technology, industry, and regulation to accelerate pharmaceutical innovation in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Rather than developing isolated projects, BPI is creating the infrastructure and partnerships needed to translate scientific discovery into commercial products and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
BioMed X Barbados, launched in January 2026 through the EU's PharmaNext programme, is already applying artificial intelligence and precision medicine to improve the early detection of diabetic kidney disease. Looking further ahead, BPI's sector strategy sets out planned investments in ICH Zone IVb-compliant stability testing, technology transfer and intellectual property support, and regional bioequivalence capacity.
Together, these initiatives are creating a platform for technology transfer, clinical research, AI-enabled manufacturing, and pharmaceutical innovation, thereby strengthening regional competitiveness and attracting new investment.
