WHA79: World Health Assembly

The World Health Assembly is the World Health Organization's annual decision-making meeting, convening health ministers and delegations from all WHO member states. WHA79 took place May 18–24, 2026, in Geneva, focusing on pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain resilience, and regional health security—key priorities also guiding BPI's work in Barbados and the Caribbean.

What BPI Did

BPI represented Barbados in nine bilateral meetings and nine side events, engaging with the African Medicines Agency, PAHO, the WTO, and regional health leaders on regulatory alignment, supply chain resilience, and local pharmaceutical production. BPI co-hosted two side events with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, where Minister Lisa Cummins delivered a keynote on financing for non-communicable diseases and participated in a panel on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Key Outcomes

The week advanced ongoing initiatives, including continued regulatory review support from the African Medicines Agency as Barbados' new medical products law progresses, deeper engagement with PAHO on regional supply chain resilience, and increased international attention on the AMA manufacturing facility ahead of its groundbreaking.
