Abuja, Kaduna and Lagos, Nigeria

BPI / AMA Nigeria Pharmaceutical Mission

BPI and AMA Medical conducted a joint mission to Abuja, Kaduna, and Lagos, Nigeria, from June 16–21, 2026, to strengthen the AU–Caribbean pharmaceutical trade corridor partnership. The mission engaged Nigerian government, regulatory, and private-sector stakeholders in manufacturing, investment, and regulatory cooperation, building on the trade corridor established by AMA's inaugural shipment to Barbados earlier this year.

What BPI Did

During the five-day mission, the delegation met with Nigerian government and investment bodies, regulatory authorities, AMA Medical leadership, and academic and clinical partners, including the National Eye Centre Kaduna. The meetings advanced the AMA manufacturing partnership, explored Lenstec's entry into the Nigerian market, and strengthened regulatory cooperation between Barbados' new medical products authority and its Nigerian counterpart.

Key Outcomes

The mission reinforced Barbados' position as a credible manufacturing and trade partner for African pharmaceutical markets, advanced financing discussions for the AMA facility, and progressed Lenstec's Nigerian market entry to a defined next phase. It also opened new opportunities for collaboration in clinical research, diagnostics, and workforce training, leveraging the direct Lagos–Bridgetown air route that supports the expanding trade corridor.
